Law Reform

TEWLS holds a strong commitment to meaningful engagement in law reform and policy work on salient legal issues and aspects of the law that significantly impact women’s lives. We advocate for targeted changes to the law and associated policies and regulations, as well as systemic change on both a local and national level.

Law Reform & Policy Work

Law Reform Img

TEWLS typically provides submissions and comments on proposed legislative and policy changes in our core practise areas, with particular focus upon women’s experiences of domestic and family violence and access to justice. Where appropriate, TEWLS collaborates with other legal services, such as our sister Women’s Legal Services in the NT (Katherine Women’s Information and Legal Service and Central Australian Women’s Legal Service) to present a collegiate view of particular legislative reform, as well as produce media releases or statements to publicise our position on issues of concern for our clients.

TEWLS also has carriage of significant campaign and strategy work in support of our service’s Strategic Plan.
